A suki Nail becomes an artwork

In the name of art, suki supplies the Austrian artist Michl Herberstein with materials for his works. During the art exhibition "Art Austria" in Vienna in spring 2017 some of his artworks could been admired.

In combination with natural wood and the suki nails, fascinating works have been created. With a lot of creativity and dedication, the abstract use of suki products presents new kinds of organic creations. The humble nail, a product used by mankind for centuries come to the centre of attention.

Quite literally there is a lot in the works of Michl Herberstein: the combination wood and nail is presenting vigorously and vividly. Each of these sculptures is a unique, fascinating and individual.

The work group consists of twenty projects from 2014 until today. Their common denominator is a wooden core studded with metal nails. This way leads to an increase of the original shape. A new surface is created with an aura of highlights, reminiscent of iron scales or an iron suit of armour.

Mag. Michl Herberstein was born in Vienna in 1965. Since 2000 he is living in southern Austria. Since 2009, the artist has been focused on solo and group exhibitions. In Vienna he exhibited at the "Viennafair" in 2015 and "Art Austria" in 2017.

Environmental protection and sustainability at suki.international

„It is our stated concern to improve consistently at all levels the aspects of a holistically and sustainable environment protection“, says Michael Lanz, Director of Supply Chain and Category Units.

The economical use of raw materials is self-evident at suki. For years, improvements have been achieved by targeted measures:

Compared with 2011, electricity consumption has been reduced by approximately 40%. Among many things the complete lighting was replaced by energy-saving technology. The remaining electricity still required by suki is covered from renewable sources.

suki has also invested massively in the energetic renovation of the buildings and has reduced the heating oil consumption by more than two-thirds per year.

In addition, paperless administration is being expanded.  Packaging materials for products and transports are always optimized. On packages with critical ingredients to the environmental, suki waives completely.

Vehicles with the latest energy saving technology are in the car pool. Where the infrastructure permits, natural gas-powered cars are driven; the first electric car is in the field.

suki.international supports charity campaign “Heroes” of the Irish DIY chain Woodies

Following on from their first charity event in July 2015, which raised over Euros 270,000 for the Irish children's charity "Make a Wish Foundation", the Irish DIY chain Woodies decided to do another charity event for 2016. It happened this year over 4 weeks between 31st of July and 26th of August in all 36 Woodies stores.

This years "Heroes" themed campaign is in support of four very worthy Irish kids charities “Make a Wish”, “Irish Autism Action”, “Jack & Jill” and “Temple Street Hospital Foundation”. The Heroes in question are the children who require help.

The fund collection was coordinated by Woodies staff, which involved cycling on their static bikes in-store and shaking their fund raising buckets to collect donations from Woodies customers and the general public who contribute together with many suppliers to Woodies. This activity includes two bike teams from Woodies head-office who are each cycling 750 km’s over 5 days to visit each and every Woodies store in Ireland to thank them for their fundraising efforts.

The suki Sales responsible for Ireland, John Flynn, kindly support by Hertz Ireland, has organised transport for this road trip to assist with the bike team’s travel and transport requirements. Suki.international and John Flynn have also jointly made a donation again this year towards this road trip fundraising activity. “Woodies are now on course to beat this year’s fundraising target of Euros 200,000 with all donations going equally to these four very deserving kid’s charities” says John Flynn.
